Nafiz Albayrak / New York, Sep 22 () – U.S. Department of State Spokesperson John Kirby has declared they did not consider the YPG (Peoples’ Protection Units) a terrorist organization.

At a press conference held in Washington, Spokesperson John Kirby said that the U.S. does not consider the YPG as a terrorist organization, responding the question, “As you know, the Turkish Government is considering the YPG as a terrorist organization, but right now the U.S. Government ramp up the support for the YPG. How do you manage this cooperation with ISIL while there is a fundamental difference between the two?”

Having adressed Turkey’s concerns about the YPG, Kirby told, “We don’t consider the YPG a terrorist organization, and they have proven successful against ISIL inside Syria. And as I said, we’re going to continue to work with counter-ISIL fighters who are and can be successful against this group, and they’re not all Kurds. They are not all Kurds. We understand that the Turkish Government has concerns about the YPG. We continue to talk to them and engage them. We continue to be appreciative of the support that Turkey is making to the coalition and to direct kinetic activity against ISIL.”

Kirby added that the coalition has come together for a common goal and said, “You do not have to agree on every issue; and you bring to the fight what you can, where you can, and when you can. And that’s how we’re managing this very important struggle”.

U.S. Department of State Spokesperson also referred to their concerns over the Russia’s recent steps to expand their military presence in Syria. In this regard Kirby stated although Russia has declared the country has been boosting military build-up in Syria, U.S. did not know if these statements reflected the truth.
