Io Chokona / Athens, July 30 () – Prime Minister of Greece Aleksis Tsipras proposed a ballot for a consensus within the party to give a decision between approving the agreement with the creditor companies or not, declaring “it is not right to lean on the vote of opposition”. In this regard, Tsipras also called on for an emergency congress meeting.

While opening the Syriza Central Committee meeting at the Cine Keramikas hall in Athens, Tsipras made a speech urging a common path respecting different points of view. Tsipras also said that next Sunday, a referendum within the party is possible.

“Let’s protect each other not of words but of deeds and show this with a common posture in the assembly. The first leftist party of Europe since the Second World War can either be supported or be dropped by the leftist deputies” added the Greek PM.

Having referred to the members within the party that speak of an alternative solution and reject the agreement in the party, Tsipras said “They will have to explain this to us. The crisis in Greece and its results have caused changes in Europe. Roles are casted again. The left should answer this very question: Should it play a role in this fight or not? The first rejection to the neoliberal hegemony from Europe has come from us”.

“Either we were going to accept the creditors’ request, or we were going to be destroyed. We have had to take difficult decisions. We present these decisions to the Syriza Central Commision’s consideration” added Tsipras.
