Istanbul, May 26 () - Turkey's new construction and occupancy permits fell in the first quarter of the year, despite total house sales increased at around 40 percent in March and April, according to the data released by Turkstat on Tuesday.

In the first three months of 2015 compared with the previous year's same period, number of buildings, floor area of buildings, value of buildings and number of dwelling units decreased by 47.5 percent, 44.5 percent, 40.2 percent and 41.2 percent respectively according to the Construction Permits given by municipalities.

Number of buildings, floor area of buildings, value of buildings and number of dwelling units increased by 51.2 percent, 45.4 percent, 42.0 percent and 40.6 percent respectively over the same period, according to the Occupancy Permits given by municipalities.

According to the use of building, two and more dwelling residential buildings had the highest share with 22.3 million squaremeters and 74.6 percent, followed by office buildings with 3.7 million squaremeters and 12.5 percent.

According to the type of investor, private sector had the highest share with 26.1 million squaremeters and 87.5 percent, followed by public sector with 2.7 million squaremeters and 9.0 percent and construction cooperatives with 1.1 million squaremeters and 3.5 percent, respectively.
