Istanbul, Jan 21 () - Turkey's consumer confidence fell in the second consecutive month after the general elections, due to the deterioration at general economic situation expectation of the consumers, according to the data released by Turkstat on Thursday.

 

The consumer confidence index calculated from the results of the consumer tendency survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkstat and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey fell by 2.7 percent to 71.62 level in January, against 73.58 in December.

 

The consumer confidence index calculated from the survey results is evaluated within the range of    0-200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100, but it indicates a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.

 

General economic situation expectation decreased by 4.3 percent

 

The general economic situation expectation index which was 99.91 in December decreased by 4.3 percent to 95.65 in January. This decrease shows that number of consumers expected a better general economic situation in the next 12 months decreased compared to the previous month.

 

Number of people unemployed expectation decreased by 6.2 percent

 

The unemployment rate index decreased by 6.2 percent to 73.57 in January on monthly basis. This decrease stemmed from the decrease in the ratio of people expecting a decrease in the number of unemployed persons in the next 12 months.

 

Financial situation expectation decreased by 1.1 percent

 

The financial situation expectation of household index decreased by 1.1 percent to 92.17 in January, from 93.19 in December. This decrease resulted from the decrease in the ratio of people expecting better financial situation of household in the next 12 months period.

 

Probability of saving increased by 10.1 percent

 

The probability of saving index, which is well below the optimistic level, increased by 10.1 percent to 25.09 in January, from 22.79 in December . This increase shows that the possibility of saving of consumers in the next 12 months period increased compared to the previous month.

 

In monthly consumer tendency survey, consumers’ assessments on current situation and their expectations for personal financial standing and general economic situation have been evaluated, their expenditure and saving tendencies for near future have been measured.
