İsmail Çetintaş / Sakarya, Oct 1 () - Chemical wastes amounting to twelve trucks worth have been found buried in a stone quarry in the northern province of Sakarya.

The waste was found buried in a 500-square-meter area in a quarry located in the Karapınar neighborhood in Sakarya’s Pamukova district on Sept. 30 after gendarmerie forces raided the quarry with supportive personnel from the Sakarya Environment and Urbanization Directorate, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Sakarya Municipal Police Department.

Gendarmerie forces cordoned the surrounding area of the quarry, while environment and urbanization directorate officers took samples of the substance.

Three suspects were detained over the incident, with the quarry’s owner and three quarry employees saying they did not know about the buried chemicals.

A comprehensive investigation has been launched into the incident.
