İzmir, Nov 24 () - Cycling enthusiasts in İzmir seek new routes to discover the Aegean province of İzmir and its historical traces, while pedaling on streets.
The Metropolitan Municipality have introduced locals the newly constructed biking paths and have offered bike sharing facilities which have been increasing the number of bikers in the province.
The Izmir Historical Project Center, gathered this growing “biking society” with a special workshop to encourage travelers to cycle and expand this environmentalist and health way of transportation in the city.
Cycling-cafés, resting areas on the way
Students and research assistants in universities, representatives of cycling societies and İzmir Biker Police Unit also attended the event.
One of the targets of the workshop is to include İzmir’s historical city center and Basmane district to the cycling network.
Also, the possible technical efforts to ease the access and traffic, construction of parking areas and technical service / repairing stations for bikes, cycling-cafés, resting areas, signs and guideboards were discussed within the workshop.
