Hasan Yıldırım - Özgür Eren / Istanbul, May 4 () - May Day Organising Committee posted indictment against Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and the Interior Ministry on Monday.

"We accuse the officials that blocked the freedom of people and we urge the police to release the people arrested on May Day by using force by the police" Arzu Çerkezoğlu, General Secretary of Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DİSK) told reporters on Monday, infornt of the main corut house in Istanbul.

The May Day Committee was formed by DİSK, Confederation of Public Laborer's Unions (KESK), the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and the Turkish Medical Association (TTB).

The police arrested more than 200 people in Istanbul on May 1, who were trying to reach Taksim for May Day Celebrations.

Istanbul’s Taksim Square and surrounding districts were on lockdown by more than 20 thousand police officers, and water cannons (TOMA) and iron crush barriers to prevent celebrations of May Day.

Taksim Square has symbolic meaning for the Turkish left, as over 30 people were killed in 1977 when suspected nationalists opened fire on May Day participants from what is now the Marmara Hotel.
