Levent Yenigün / Antalya, July 24 () – In Kemer district of southern resort town Antalya, district governship gave the decision to protect the eggs and baby caretta carettas, or loggerhead turtles, by constructing a wooden hedge, at the hatching zone near the Çıralı beach in the region.

The entry of vehicles was blocked at the 3,500-meters-long beach, while camping at the beach was banned.

The district governship announced that the decision stemmed from the danger caused by human circulation, camp fire, noise and lack of attention of people and cars at the beach, which harm the baby caretta carettas and the nests. Only people will be able to pass through the gates of the wooden hedge.

“We have compromised the comfort of people, for the sake of the comfort of caretta cerattas” said Kemer District Governor Halil Serdar Cevheroğlu, announcing that even if camping is an environmentalist mentality that they respect, they seek the peace of logger heads’ living spaces.
