Yaşar Anter / Muğla, July 22 () – A twenty-year-old young woman has gone on a country trip on a motorcycle, aiming at supporting women’s rights and liberty.

University student Gülşah Merve Yüksel, who has been travelling among 31 different provinces in Turkey, recently arrived to southern province of Bodrum after having covered a distance of 7,200 km in 33 days.

Yüksel, studying Teacher Education for Mentally Disabled Children at the Maltepe University in Istanbul, told that her protest aims at encouraging women in Turkey, making their voice heard, and contribute to the perception of Turkey in other countries.

Having welcomed by motorcyclers in Bodrum, Yüksel said, “Before going on the trip, I had received a great deal of support and attention, particularly by women. People kept sending me positive messages through social media platforms. I have one week left. In a week, I will be having completed the trip back in Istanbul. This will make a distance of 9,300 km”.

Turkey had a tough year regarding women’s rights, particularly after the murder of 20-year-old young girl Ozgecan Aslan in March 2015, who had been stabbed and killed while resisting a rape attempt, unleashing an outrage in the country.
