Ali Ekber Şen / Mersin, Aug 10 () - Within the protocol signed between Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Water And Sewerage Administration and Mersin University Sea Turtles Application and Research Center, the nesting ground of loggerhead turtles (Caretta carettas) along with green turtle (Chelonia mydas) in Erdemli district Alata beach hosted a beach cleaning operation.

The personel of the institutions worked in cooperation with volunteers and a young sport team of Mersin city.

Head of Sea Turtles Research Center, Professor Serap Ergene, informed the group about nesting grounds’ structure and the hatching process of baby caretta carettas, prior to the beach cleaning. Then the group set to work and cleaned the beach from plastic and solid wastes.

After the cleaning, the group witnessed the moment when caretta carettas hatched from tehir eggs and met the Mediterenean waters.
