Ömer Pınar / Şanlıurfa, Aug 24 () – Over the deadly suicide bomb attack having left 34 people killed in Suruç district of southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, some 600 lawyers have founded the “Justice for Suruç Platform” to intervene in the trials.

On Aug. 20, a suicide bomber had detonated an explosive device during a press statement of activists from Federation of the Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) in Amara Cultural Center in Suruç, leaving dozens killed and hundreds wounded.

Some 19 jurist associations and 600 lawyers, who have founded the platform to intervene as lawyers of people killed and wounded, has launched an inspection in the scene of the attack, in Suruç.

The group announced that the platform will file a criminal complaint over the Governorate of Şanlıurfa, Suruç District Police Department, District Gendarmerie Command and Provincial Directorate of Security.

“We have been undergoing a research for the massacre’s investigations. We will hold a meeting with Şanlıurfa Chief Public Prosecutor and Investigating Prosecutor, where we will share our findings. This massacre has occurred because in the previous massacres,Reyhanlı an Niğde, an efficient investigation has not been carried out and the offenders have not been turned over to the justice” said the statement.

The lawyers’ statement also noted a potential connection exists between the massacre and previous bomb attacks over the Peoples’ Democratic Party headquarters in Mersin province.

“We find very suspicious and meaningful that in a district where the Turkish intelligence take high level security measures, a region where a bird can’t fly without the Intelligence’s notice, a massacre has been easily carried out.”

The press statement also stressed that lawyers have not been able to receive and examine the autopsy reports, and urged that the confidentiality order over the Suruç trial is an unlawful implementation.
