Ediz Verdioğlu / Aydın, Oct 5 () – In Didim district in Aegean province of Aydın, the 300-year-old ancient chapel located near the famous Apollon Temple was recently opened to warship of foreigners residing in the region.
The chapel has been closed for restoration by the municipality three years ago, until foreigners boosted efforts to open the chapel to use of people, with support of Mayor of Didim from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Deniz Atabay.
Cultural events to be held in chapel
Visitors, mostly British, will be offered arts and culture events as well, announced officials.
A British resident in Didim, 67-year-old Tony Scott told they were happy to see the positive result of their attempts. Foreigner residents have firstly referred to officials their demand for constructing a church in the region. As they failed to fund the purchase of the field, they applied to use the chapel.
Steps taken within discretion
The municipality has given the authorization for use of chapel during Sundays for two hours every week.
CHP’s Mayor Didim added they were happy to take steps within discretion, offering people to gather, worship and participate to cultural events.
