İzmir, Aug 27 () – The Saint John’ Cathedral located in Selçuk district of Aegean province of İzmir is under restoration work with the support of Governorate of İzmir and Selçuk Municipality, to restore and protect depictions of Jesus.

The restoration works that have been left unfinished a while ago were recently partially completed in respect to a project focusing on the dome of Cathedral, through original materials and a technical method, while the interior restoration works are planned to be completed in fast pace.

The Şirince St. John’s Cathedral in Selçuk was thought to be a significant center for the Christendom, where both Catholic and Orthodox communities had worshipped, in the region.

Selçuk is still recognized as the center of tourism of religions, and the Church is expected to mark one of the attraction points of Christendom after the restoration works to be completed in December.

Local officials told they will continue to support freedom to freedom of belief, through the restoration of the “stone church”, St. John’s.
