Süheyla Gözdereliler / Yalova, Sep 16 () - In western province of Yalova, the Municipality has erected a statue called “memorial of dignity” to commemorate the Japanese engineer who had committed suicide, holding himself responsible for a rope that has broken on the construction project in March.

51-year-old Japanese engineer Kishi Ryoichi had been working on a bridge project, cost of one billion dollars, connecting İzmit and Yalova provinces on the edge of the Marmara Sea. The rope on the section of the bridge called the Catwalk had ruptured on March 21. He had been found by school children at the entrance of Altınova district cemetery, with cuts to his wrist and throat, leaving a suicide note behind.

Ryoichi, who was also known as an expert in his field, will now be commemorated in Yalova, with a five-meter-high monument called “Memorial of Dignity”, where the meaning of “dignity” is explained with respect to the Japanese culture, installed at Suwon Park in Gazipaşa district.

The family of the Japanese engineer, leaving a dignified trait to the history, is expected to participate to the opening ceremony of the monument to be held on Sep. 16.
