Ediz Verdioğlu / Aydın, Aug 28 () – A structure, thought to have connections with the ancient Temple of Apollo, was unearthed within excavation works in Didim district of Aegean province of Aydın.

The excavation of two-meter-long structure, located in east-west direction and thought to be Temple of Apollo’s extension, boosted works to unearth the whole base.

“This structure, which brings to light the bases in the ancient site, marks typical planning characteristics. We expect other new findings in the area, because in the Greek sacred areas, there had been more than one temples and we have revealed this with respect to tablets. These new findings match up with those have been told in the ancient tablets” said Professor Helga Bumke, head of the excavations .

Meanwhile, excavation works continue in three main zones, the garden of a school, the area of an old church, currently a mosque, and a modern street passing through the temple, carried out by Germany-based Halle Martin Luther University, the German Archaeology Institute and the Milet Museum Directorate.
