Istanbul, June 12 () - The European Union’s foreign policy chief has called the leader of Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP) in order to exchange views on the results of the June 7 parliamentary election vote.

EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy high commissioner Federica Mogherini called CHP head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu late on June 11, the CHP’s press office said in a brief statement.

Kılıçdaroğlu told Mogherini his opinions on the potential government formation processes after the June 7 parliamentary election and about Turkey’s relations with the EU.

Earlier, in a joint statement released on June 8 by Mogherini and EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, the 28-member bloc welcomed the high turnout in the election, while also expressing readiness to make progress in relations between Brussels and Ankara.

“We now look forward to the swift formation of a new parliament and government and to working together closely. The coming period offers opportunities for further strengthening of the EU-Turkey relationship and to advance in broadening EU-Turkey cooperation in all fields, for the benefit of all our citizens” said the statement.
