Ankara, July 2 () - Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has issued a statement marking the 22nd anniversary of the Madimak massacre, via the social media platform Twitter.
“22 years ago, we have experienced the most tragic example of what a disintegration in the society could lead to. I commemorate with mercy, the thirty-three lives that we have lost ” said Kılıçdaroğlu in his statement.
On July 2, 1993, thirty-seven people, mostly Alevi intellectuals who have gathered for a cultural festival in Sivas were killed when a mob affiliated to radical and fundamentalist Islamic movement set fire to the Madimak Hotel in Sivas, Turkey.
