Istanbul, April 21 () - Number of electronic books published in Turkey rose by 128 percent in 2014, against in the previous year, according to the International Standart Book Number (ISBN) Statistics data released by Turkstat on Tuesday.

Total number of published materials in Turkey rose by 7.2 percent to 50,752 in 2014, with the highest increase on electronic books at 128 percent.

Total 50 752 ISBN were given for 44,613 books, 483 electronic books (DVD, VCD, CD), 5,245 electronic books (web based), 193 talking books (cassette, CD, DVD), 16 maps and 202 other materials in 2014.

Materials published by the private sector rose by 9.6 percent to 46,525 in 2014. The distribution of published materials by publisher type is respectively 91.7 percent of private sector, 5.9 percent of public and educational institutions and 2.5 percent of non-governmental organizations.

Number of the adult fiction publications rose by 43.8 percent to 9,542 and number of adult culture publications rose by 21.2 percent to 11,652 in 2014.

The biggest subject group in the published material was education with 24.4 percent in 2014, while 23 percent were of adult culture publications, 18.8 percent of children and adolescence publications, 14.1 percent of the adult fiction publications, 13.6 percent of academic publications and 6.1 percent religion publications.

The share of Turkish language in published materials stood at 91.7 percent in 2014, followed by English with 4.9 percent and other languages with 3.4 percent.
