Istanbul, April 29 () - Turkey's crude death rate rose in 2014, reaching back to 2011 levels, due to the high increase of the number of deaths over the same period, according to the data released by Turkstat on Wednesday.

The number of deaths in Turkey rose by 4.7 percent to over 390 thousand in 2014, 54.7 percent of which were males and 45.3 percent females, while infant mortality rate rose to 11.1 per thousand.

Crude death rate, the number of deaths per thousand persons, rose to 5.1 per thousand in 2014, up from 4.9 per thousand in 2013. It means that while the number of deaths was 4.9 per thousand persons in 2013, the number of deaths was 5.1 per thousand persons in 2014.

Turkey's crude death rate stood at at 5.0 per thousand in 2012 and 5.1 per thousand in 2011.

Infant mortality, the number of infant deaths per thousand live births, rose to 11.1 per thousand in 2014, up from 10.8 per thousand in the previous year, with a total 14 thousand 821 infants in 2014, showing the rate of infant deaths per thousand live births in 2014.

While the proportion of infants dying before completing their first month was 64.7 percent according to the revised 2013 data, this proportion increased to 66.6 percent in 2014.

On the other hand, in 2014 it was seen that infants died in first day with 14.8 percent, 1-6 days old with 31.5 percent and 7-29 days old with 20.3 percent. The proportion of infant deaths of 1-4 months old was 21.8 percent as well.

Under five mortality rate means that the probability of dying in the next five years after birth. While the under five mortality rate was 13.4 per thousand in 2013, this rate was 13.3 per thousand in 2014.
