Sadi Kaymaz / Beijing, Dec 29 () - A former senior official committed suicide over the deadly landslide in southern city of Shenzhen of China, which left at least seven killed and around 70 people missing, as the disaster occurred in an area under his jurisdiction.

According to Chinese media, Xu Yuanan, the official inspecting the area has jumped to his death from a building.

Southern Metropolis Daily newspaper said Yuanan was the former director of the Guangming New District Urban Management Bureau.

A huge pile of construction debris had collapsed and toppled 33 buildings, while trapping dozens of people, on Dec. 20.

The Communist Party secretary of Shenzhen, Ma Xiaorui, has vowed to punish anyone found culpable.
