Istanbul, May 12 () – Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek
Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus leaders agreed to resume the new period of
negotiations for a resolution in Cyprus on May 15.

TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Administration President Nikos
Anastasiadis met in a social dinner.

The meeting, that took 2 hours, was realised in Ledra Palace Hotel in the buffer zone where United Nations resides.

As the result of the leaders’ meeting, date for the new period negotiation process to begin was set for May 15, Friday.

The host of the Akıncı-Anastasiadis meeting in the buffer zone was United Nations
Special Envoy on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide.

TRNC President Akıncı and the Greek Administration President Anastasiadis shook
hands to be viewed by the media and then proceeded with the meeting.

The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, UN Special Envoy on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide said in a joint statement with the leaders.

Eide expressed that the leaders shared a solution-oriented vision and two leaders agreed on getting back on the road without delay.

Stating that the leaders revealed strong determination, Eide said it was yet to be decided in the first parley how the negotiations would continue and how often the parleys would take place.

“There is a peerless opportunity to seize” said Eide and told that only with the
decisiveness of both leaders and collaborative work, the solution would come up.
