Özgür Altuncu - İdris Tiftikçi - Yaşar Kaşmaz / İstanbul, March 16 () - Some seven people were detained by riot police officers after a group protested the anniversary of the "Beyazıt Massacre" and "Halabja Massacre" at Istanbul University.

Police officers did not allow protesters to gather at the square in front of the campus' historical gate and took extensive security measures from early hours.

Police asked for ID control, started detaining protesters. Some others chanting slogans who approached the square were also detained by undercover police officers, after they were handcuffed behind back on the ground.

Seven students were killed and 41 were injured after leftist students in the university were attacked with a bomb and gunfire on March 16 1978, at Istanbul University. The incident was called the "Beyazıt Massacre" where the campus is placed in Istanbul and fingers were pointed to right wing students.

The head of the Istanbul branch of the Grey Wolves, Orhan Çakıroğlu, was sentenced to 11 years in 1980 and was released in two years. Çakıroğlu has claimed he has received the police's order.
