Öykü Altuntaş / Istanbul, Dec 7 () - Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Islamic State (IS) Brett McGurk disclaimed the alleged killing of Syrian government forces by a U.S. led coalition airstrike, while coalition forces continue air operations in Syria and Iraq.

“Per @CJTFOIR: No coalition strikes within 55km of claimed incident on Syrian base in #DeirEzzor. Reports of coalition involvement are false” twitted McGurk through his account, referring to the statement of the International Coalition for Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTFOIR).

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring the developments in the region has claimed a suspected coalition airstrike had killed four Syrian military personnel, while 13 military personnel were left wounded, which marked the first coalition strike that has killed Syrian government forces.

The air strike hit a part of the Saeqa military camp in Deir al-Zour, a province mostly held by the Islamic State (IS), has marked the first coalition strike that has killed Syrian government forces, the monitor has added.

The watch has also urged a separate overnight coalition strike has killed civilians, a woman and two of her children.

Anti-IS military strikes continue

Meanwhile, the coailition forces have been resuming attacks against IS targers in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, coalition military forces “conducted 12 strikes using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft.” said the statement released by CJTFOIR on Dec. 6.

The statement included that an airstrike has hit IS’ tactical unit in Raqqah, while two strikes struck an IS tactical unit and destroyed two IS vehicles and an IS building near Mar’a. Some five strikes near Dayr Az Zawr destroyed five oil well-heads, while four strikes struck a tactical unit and destroyed an Iexcavator, tactical vehicle, and IS building, according to the statement.

“Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, bomber and attack aircraft” said the statement.

“Near Mosul, four strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL mortar tube, an ISIL fighting position, an ISIL command and control node, an ISIL excavator, an ISIL heavy machine gun, and suppressed a separate ISIL heavy machine gun position” the statement said.

Also, near Ramadi, tactical units and a sniper position, four fighting positions, four IS command and control nodes, three staging areas, along with a damaged fighting position, and denied access to terrain, according to the statement.

The strikes of coalition as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, operates to “eliminate the ISIL terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, and the wider international community”.
