Ali Ekber Şen / Mersin, Aug 4 () – In southeastern province of Mersin, Mayor of Mezitli Neşet Tarhan from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) urged that the nesting grounds of endangered caretta carettas that are under protection in the region are under threat of structuring.
Tarhan made a written statement and pointed out that Forestry and Waterworks Ministry has demanded to open the land in Davultepe district, which has been declared as a natural park in 2011, to structuring and return it to a resort beach, with a written statement. Tarhan added they have given a negative response to the request.
“This prompt of the Forestry and Waterworks Ministry offends against international agreements and the rules of the circular concerned. I, therefore, call on our policital parties, our people, and NGOs to resist against this demand of Forestry and Waterworks Ministry , which paves the way of looting and pelf” added CHP’s Tarhan.
