Erhan Tekten / İstanbul, Aug 12 () - Within the “Soma has dreams” project of daily Hurriyet, children of 301 coal miners killed after 2014 Soma mining disaster are making their dreams come true.

Recently, an Istanbul trip was organised by the Maltepe Municipality where some of the children of victims enjoyed the Bosphorus view and participated to cultural events.

As Turkey marked first year anniversary of the disaster in March, the project has contacted all the children of 301 Soma victims under age of 18, aiming to assure a social awareness and bring the deadliest disaster back to the agenda of Turkey.

While most of the children’s wishes have came true with support of audiences of daily Hurriyet, some of the responsilibty have been undertaken by various municipalities and organizations. The most recent one among those wishes was a trip to Istanbul city, where 60 people including 40 children and their mothers made a ferry trip across the Bosphorus, with support of Anatolian Maltepe district’s municipality, between August 11- 14.

Along with participation of their guide and Maltepe Mayor Ali Kılıç, children and their families enjoyed the view, took pictures, sang songs and threw simit to seagulls.

After the ferry trip, the children and families will visit the Istanbul Aquarium, Toy Museum, Aqua Floria, Miniaturk, and Koç Museum, along with Topkapı Palace, Basilica Cistern, Aghasofia and Khedive Palace. (Photo)
