Arif Arslan / Batman, Nov 3 () - The 650-year-old Zeynel Bey Tomb, located in historical Hasankeyf district of eastern province of Batman, will be removed in order to protect the artefact from the ongoing Ilısu Dam Project which will cause a flood at the site.

Works to relocate the tomb has started over concerns of a potential flood, however Mayor of Hasankeyf Abdulvahap Kusen is also concerned of the relocation process, which could fail and lead to a shameful experience.

"A failure can rise a scandal"

“The tomb is expected to be reinstalled into a site near the region, in 500 days. However, we have fear of a potential incompatibility between the historic textures of the tomb and the site” Kusen urged.

As the tomb has cracks on its upper parts, Kusen stressed the effort to remove the tomb could lead to a disaster, if the “quit on the workers” and rise a scandal in front of the world.

The Zeynel Bey Tomb, though to weigh around 1,100 tons, is expected to be carried in a lattice, in one piece.
