Cem Ulucan / Aydın, Sep 15 () – The first provincial assembly meeting of September in Aegean province of Aydın was held in the ancient site of Nysa within historical Caria region, where 1,800 years ago assembly of elders had used to gather. Mayor of Aydın Özlem Çerçioğlu from Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) told the event has made history.

The meeting marked a historical moment as the ancient Bouletion Assembly Hall with a capacity for 700 people gathered the Metropolitan Municipality Assembly members, along with inhabitants.

Locals showed great interest to the meeting as women in the excavation team of the ongoing works in the region wore historical costumes of the Nysa culture dating back 1,800 years in time. Head of excavation worked Professor Hakan Öztanır guided the visitors by showing the area, giving information.

One of the most important sites in the ancient Caria region, Nysa dating back to second century A.C. had been constructed by the wealthy Sextus Iulius Antoninus Pythodoros upon his mother’s bequest.
