Their performance brought together the Italian and Turkish melodies in touristic areas of Fethiye.

Castagna living in Milano who has been researching and writing on ethnic music around the world for 20 years, has come to Fethiye and has been hosted by kemenche master Karakaya that the Italian musician had contacted through social media.

While Karakaya has given Castagna information on Turkish music and yoruk instruments for five days, the musicians performed in historical spots.

Castagna told, “Italian music’s roots date back to ancient times. Turkish music is more modern. The two music are fairly distinct. But the kemenche offered us to spot common points and make good performances. I already bought a saz and shrill pipe [zurna in Turkish] to bring to Italy. Different instruments mean different tastes for me”.

According to Karakaya, they managed to capture the warm climate of Mediterranean with their duet performances.
